NDIS Capacity Building & Life Skills Support

NDIS Capacity Building and Life Skills support is for people who want more than managing their condition. It is for people who want to build a life. At evachange, this support is practical, strengths-based, and shaped entirely around your goals.

What Capacity Building Really Means for You

Are you finding it difficult to manage daily routines? Does the overwhelm of episodic mental health challenges make it hard to stay on top of your goals?

At evachange, we believe that capacity building isn’t just about ticking boxes – it’s about regaining your independence. We walk alongside you to develop the practical life skills you need to navigate the “peaks and troughs” of mental health with resilience and choice.

NDIS Capacity Building & Life Skills Support

What are Capacity Building Supports?

In the NDIS world, “Capacity Building” refers to a specific category of funding designed to help you learn new things and do more for yourself. At evachange, we translate that into real-world action.

Whether you are looking to improve your social participation, manage your household more effectively, or build the emotional regulation skills needed for work or study, we provide person-centred support tailored to your unique journey.

We help you strengthen:

Every area above represents something real, something your everyday life will look and feel different with. Capacity building is not about ticking boxes. It is about building something sustainable.

Eve Watts, evachange

“By focusing on your strengths at your pace, in your time – every step forward matters.”

Progress is not linear, and it does not need to be. Every routine established, every skill built, every new connection made is a genuine step forward.

A mental health condition is one part of who you are. Not the whole story.

Capacity building support at evachange starts from a simple premise: you have strengths. The aim is to help you build a life that feels meaningful and manageable, even through the peaks and troughs.

That means small steps count. You stay in the driver’s seat. You set the direction. evachange walks alongside you.

Goals are built around what you want and what you can do, not around what you cannot. There is no ceiling imposed, and no one-size-fits-all plan handed to you. Every session starts from where you are today.

Why Choose evachange for Life Skills Support?

Conditions this service supports

Psychosocial recovery coaching supports adults with a diagnosed condition that qualifies as a psychosocial disability under the NDIS, including complex trauma, C-PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, borderline personality disorder, and others. Reach out if you are unsure whether your diagnosis qualifies.

Navigating Your NDIS Capacity Building Budget

Understanding NDIS funding can be exhausting. If you have “Improved Daily Living” or “Increased Social and Community Participation” in your NDIS plan, you may be able to access our services.

We support participants who are:

  • Self-Managed: Giving you total control over who you hire.
  • Plan-Managed: We work directly with your Plan Manager to handle the invoicing.

Note: For those with specific Psychosocial Recovery Coach funding, please visit our Recovery Coaching Page.

Common Questions About Capacity Building and Life Skills

  • How do I know if I have Capacity Building funding in my NDIS plan?

Your NDIS plan document lists your funding categories. Look for a section labelled “Capacity Building Supports.” If you are unsure, your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm this for you. You are also welcome to contact evachange and Eve will help you work it out.

  • Can I access this service via telehealth if I am not in Newcastle?

Yes. evachange delivers all sessions via secure Microsoft Teams, which means support is available to NDIS participants anywhere in Australia. While evachange is based in Georgetown, Newcastle NSW, the service is not limited by location.

  • What is the difference between Capacity Building and Support Coordination?

A Support Coordinator helps you implement and manage your NDIS plan — organising providers, navigating the system, and keeping your plan on track. Capacity Building support, like the support provided by evachange, focuses on building your own skills, routines, and resilience so you can participate more fully in life. They serve different purposes, and some participants have funding for both. Visit the NDIS page for more detail.

  • What NDIS funding do I need to access this support?

Evachange’s capacity building and life skills support is funded under the NDIS Capacity Building budget, line item 07_101_0106_6_3. You will need Capacity Building funding included in your plan and be either self-managed or plan-managed to access this service.

  • Can I use capacity building support alongside clinical treatment?

Yes. Capacity building support is non-clinical and is designed to work alongside your existing care, whether that includes your GP, psychologist, psychiatrist, or other members of your clinical team. Evachange does not provide diagnosis or therapy. The focus is entirely on building practical capacity in your daily life.

  • What if I already have a Recovery Coach and a Support Coordinator?

Many participants work with both. A Recovery Coach focuses on psychosocial recovery goals, including building skills, resilience, and community connections. A Support Coordinator manages the broader NDIS plan and service arrangements. These are different roles, funded separately, and they work well together. To learn more, visit the Psychosocial Recovery Coaching page.
